Nevada

Left Pine Haven, WY and headed out to Carson City/Virginia City, NV. Virginia City is an old historic mining town that Jerry and the guys stopped at along their motorcycle trip. It's a lot like Jerome in AZ however, about 3 times the size. Jerry knew this was a place that would be right up my alley. He was absolutely right, love the old historic mining towns from the 1800's. The history, the stories, the people, the unique hotels, stores, saloons and restaurants all make it so much fun to visit!
Jerry planned this visit the right way, he reserved a room at the historic Silver Queen hotel so that we could get the whole effect of this old town. We spent our night out at the Red Dog Saloon, enjoyed some great food, drinks, music and dancing. This also happens to be where Janis Joplin performed in 1966 with the band The Amazing Charlatans. Awesome night! The next day we found a cute hippy type cafĂ© that served an excellent breakfast, just what we needed to get our day of store browsing started! We spent our day in and out of all the unique shops, also had to stop into the historic Washoe Saloon/Club. The Washoe Club is above this saloon and it was mainly established for the "elite" that didn't want to mingle with the rowdy locals. There are still 21 bullet holes in the ceiling above the bar in the original tin, the bullet holes are believed to have come from the bartenders in past years trying to keep peace in his bar. There is also a crypt at the rear of the building in which you enter through the saloon which is walled with rock. This was an overflow morgue during the winter time due to not being able to dig graves because of the frozen ground. They have signs warning people if they want to enter, we entered (see pics). The following day we toured the old town area of Carson City. Saw many old original homes and government buildings and also the original Carson City Mint. There was one old home where a portion of the movie "The Shootist" was filmed which was the boarding house that John Wayne stayed in and was pictured walking out of, the day of his last gunfight, really cool!

Fun times here in NV now moving onto an off the map town called Mill Creek located in Northern, CA. More to follow...stay tuned!
