Day 2

Well the first night in the tent was pretty restless. Hot night and sleeping on a 1" air mattress and a one square foot pillow just isn't the home bed. The alarm went off at 5:15 am and we were pretty much the only ones up in camp which was good, had the restrooms to ourselves. Got cleaned up, made some coffee and got on the first shuttle heading out to Angels Landing, the most difficult and notorious hike in Zion. The hike is supposed to be a 2 to 4 hours round trip. Once we reached Angels Landing there was another challenge, Scouts Lookout. That was pretty much mountain climbing not hiking. They have chain rails all along the way to help pull yourself up. In some areas the trail is 3' wide with 1000' drops on either side. There have been 6 deaths since 2004. With that extra little surprise we did the hike in 3 1/2 hours. We are paying for it this afternoon. Hope you enjoy the pics, they certainly don't do Zion justice.
Just starting out, we haven't a clue what's ahead!
A shot on the way up.
Another scenic site on our way up.

At Angels Landing and now the warning sign for continuing up Scouts Lookout.

Climbing up Scouts Lookout.

Looking at Scouts Lookout from Angels Landing. We end up at the very top of that mountain.

On the way up to Scouts Lookout. 500' drop off on either side. Carmel didn't fall on this hike.

  1. Very cool pics. That hike though looks way too steep.
